Social Fabric: A Community Rugmaking Project
June 20 - July 10Free
Join Jo Hesse at A.P.E. Gallery in Northampton, MA and help design and/or create a large rug made out of upcycled scraps of prefelt and wool from her previous felting projects. Learn traditional feltbeating techniquesand partake in the rug kicking festival. If you are interested in working on the surface design come June 20th– 22nd, if you are interested in kicking/feltbeating come June 23rd– July 9th. If you would like to contribute your own wool scraps to the project you are more than welcome to do so! Sign up for a two-hour slot or for the day; or stay and participate for as long as you’d like to. If you know a percussionist who would be interested in keeping time while we work invite them along. The rug will be auctioned off on July 10th with the proceeds being given back to our community (if you participate in the felting you can be a part of deciding where and how to distribute the money). Email Jo at email@example.com with questions or to RSVP
Jo’s rugs will also be on exhibit in the gallery for the duration of the project.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northampton Arts Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
