Susan has been involved with textiles most of her life. As a young girl her mother taught her to sew. She went on discover other areas of fiber manipulation in spinning, weaving, dyeing, knitting, rug hooking, beading and felting.

The multifunctional aspect of felt has greatly intrigued Susan. The fact that the fibers of wool can be layed out flat to create a two dimensional fabric and then turn around and build a three dimensional object from the same material is exciting. Felt blends colors in a way that many other mediums can not. The ghosting of a color that pulls through from another layer of wool to influence the surface is almost magical. This can be exploited in a way that is like watercolor….colors bleeding through to create new colors.

The tactile properties of felt are unquestionable. It screams to be touched, caressed, and embarrassed. It draws you in.

Susan has been gone a step further when it comes to being involved with the fiber of wool. She has been raising sheep for about 20 years. She has a deep connection to the end product as well as a great appreciation for the gift that the sheep give…that of wool.
