I have always been intrigued by texture and color in textiles, be it yarn, fabric or other composition. I learned to knit, crochet, and sew from my mom at a young age and had an inspirational art teacher in Junior high and high school who led the students in exploration of many types of media. I applied to college with the intent of studying textiles and design at UC Davis but changed direction – studying physiology and anatomy after a visit to the UCSF medical school with a high school physiology teacher . . . As a side job in college, I made wedding dresses and continued to explore texture in my knitting and sewing projects. As I raised a family of four kids, my projects were set aside for Halloween costumes, birthday piñatas and kid art projects. As each kid spread their wings, I found more time for knitting and sewing again. In 2018 I saw some pictures in the SDA magazine of felted garments by Katia Mokeyeva and when she had a workshop in Portland Oregon in May 2018, I signed up. . despite having no experience or knowledge of felting. I am now hooked and have continued taking in-person and online workshops with many artists exploring many techniques for felting. I have met some of the NEFG members in these workshops. I also enjoy natural dyeing, shibori and botanical printing and have not yet landed on my style for felting or how I want to integrate felting with these other media. I live in Eastern Washington state.
I have taken in person workshops from Katia Mokeyeva, Marjolein Dallinga and Renate Maile-Moskowitz. I have taken online classes from Fiona Duthie, Judit Pocs, Pam deGroot, Katia Mokeyeva and Kristy Kun.
