Having grown up loving to draw as a child, I minored in art in college to accompany my music major.  My professional work followed a different path, as an elementary teacher and teacher educator.  This period did, however, include a wonderful 6 years as an art teacher.  When I retired in 1992, that most successful and pleasurable experience contributed to my return to art-making on a regular basis.  When I arrived at felt as my medium I was able to build on the courses and workshops that I had taken over the years to form a basis for this exciting field.

My work in felt has grown out of a love of fabric.  After a brief period of making non-conventional cloth dolls I discovered feltmaking.  My current focus is almost entirely on 3-dimentional figures in the form of women and birds, using a variety of materials and techniques.  Traditional wet felting, and especially needle felting, are basic to most pieces. along with a variety of embellishments.  Found twigs are now extensively incorporated.  The recent “Whirly Birds” are many-legged (or footed) creatures, which come from the variety of twigs I’ve found on my woods explorations.
