Border walls threaten more than just human lives. Walls block animals from getting to food, water, and mates that they need to survive. Borders weaken genetic diversity and fragment habitats.
The background of this piece was wet felted using core wool and merino wool. I stitched the border on and wove wool roving at the top to ensure you could see the wall border. All of the butterflies were needlefelted using Coopworth wool and stitched on. I then stitched the entire piece onto 100% black wool and affixed that to canvas.
I intentionally left the flag looking a little wonky since that is how I am feeling about our flag right now.
